History

My name is Barry Watson, and I operate TwinCitiesRecording.com.

What I do:

I have a passion for great audio, music and 25+ years of experience bringing these together. Everything from classical orchestras, choirs, voice work, county, rock & punk bands have benefited from my engineering.

In addition to recording I provide live sound services, designed & built loudspeakers, component level repair of equipment, wired audio distribution in studios, and worked as an electronic technician in a statewide radio network. In addition I've worked as a consultant & programmer in the IT industry. I'm into art through technology.

Long before digital equipment and inexpensive studio-quality gear was available I was putting tracks on tape. I designed and built my first mixing board from scratch, and I learned how to get the right sound by only using microphone selection and placement. I soon learned how to get quality results from whatever equipment and space was available.

Today I'm surrounded by great tools, including a good selection of excellent microphones, effects and digital recorders.

However, the early lessons learned about how to capture your sound with the right microphone and the proper placement are as important as ever. Even great gear is worthless without the ear.

My goal is to make your performance sound great, and as much as possible, create a mix that presents your vision. By keeping overhead expenses low, I can offer quality work that a musician can afford.

What I don't do:

I don't compete with big studios who have lots of resources, great sounding rooms, awesome engineering and production staff, lots of expenses, and who charge big studio rates.

I don't encourage projects that have extensive post-production. My market is high-quality, fast, and affordable demos and live recordings.

I don't try to manage your band, sell you stuff you don't want, or make promises I can't deliver.

I don't retain rights to your recordings. I ask for production credit, and I appreciate the use of samples, but the recordings, and the masters are yours. You may copy them, distribute without restrictions, or work with them in a project at another studio.

I do not do high volume CD duplication, art production, or video work, but may be able to help you find these resources if needed.
